Tailgating Tips For A "Winning Tailgate"

Michael Faust

Every super tailgater knows that magic outside a collage football game, NFL Stadium, NASCAR race or wherever your game day or race day tailgate "does not just happen." A great tailgate that allows you to claim victory takes thoughtful planning and is passion driven.  As you get ready, think about all the ideas you have and how you can put them in place in a way that will enhance the party.  When I head out I am thinking, what is this weekend going to take to “be The Big Party I want it to be?”  I start with where will we park and how do I get in and out with ease.  Then I go through the check list … where is and did I bring and pack the bar  (beer, soda, waters, liquor, mixers, ice, etc.), food (meat, my secret BBQ sauce, sides, etc …), grill, (charcoal, wood or portable gas - pick the one that works for you and the location), recipes and the ingredients, clothing and “appropriate apparel,” my traditions, the traditions of the place where I am tailgating, TV’s, generator, power cords, games, tents/nets or other shade covers, where are the kids playing at (think - is it safe and out of the flow of traffic and crowds of people), chairs, benches, accessories, did I text and email the guys and ladies who are attending to find out how many friends they have invited that will be new to the tailgate (need a rough idea of how many drinks and other supplies …. Then add 25%-50% for the unexpected),

The article below, written by Saturday Down South is a solid read.  I encourage you to take a few moments as we all prepare for College and NFL season to read it.  It’s a winner!  I don’t care if you tailgate in the American Athletic Conference, Atlantic Coast Conference, Big Ten Conference, Big 12, Conference USA, Mid-American, Mountain West, Pac-12, Southeastern, the Sun Belt, or any of the more than 500 Collage Football stadiums in America, in front of a NFL Stadium, on the infield of a NASCAR event …. Making sure you have all your accessories and have thought it through from the moment you depart for the tailgate to the moment you arrive home is the KEY to your victory at the tailgate.
